The JDI Group has a long history with the UT Health Science Campus. One of our original projects with The University of Toledo was to bring a Bio-Safety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory into compliance with Center for Disease Control and World Health Organization regulations. The initial project included relocating the HEPA bag-in/bag-out air filter assembly, which protects facility personnel and the general public from hazardous materials. JDI also reconfigured the exhaust ductwork to provide negative pressure within the building and relocated the exhaust fan assembly. A steam autoclave was added within the BSL-3 suite.
In a subsequent project, the workflow was altered to provide for BSL-3 animal holding areas. The room pressurization was adjusted and redundant exhaust fans were added and relocated on the roof. These alterations to the facility and exhaust system provided necessary redundancy at a cost savings. JDI provided full architectural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services on this project.
In 2021, JDI assissted UT with a conceptual design for renovating the Health Education Building to accommodate an expanded BSL3 laboratory, a new BSL2 laboratory, and new animal housing.
In 2023, The JDI Group began working to upgrade and expand the BSL-3/ABSL-3 laboratory space, renovate the Department of Laboratory Animal Research (DLAR) to provide more animal housing space and additional procedure spaces, and create a
dedicated specialized research space for microbiome research. JDI is providing full architectural, structural, and MEP engineering services on this project.
