As a Process Mechanical Designer with us, you will help to develop detailed designs for process piping, mechanical systems, and equipment layouts, collaborating with multi-discipline teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions. You will create and modify 2D and 3D models, generate P&IDs, support project documentation, and ensure compliance with industry standards while engaging with clients and visiting job sites to verify existing conditions and support construction efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings of process mechanical systems using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks
- Create piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and process flow diagrams (PFDs)
- Design layouts for piping, pumps, heat exchangers, tanks, and other process equipment
- Develop engineering packages based on guidance from project leads, demonstrating independence with periodic progress reviews
- Work closely with process, mechanical, and structural engineers to ensure designs align with project requirements and coordinate with other disciplines (electrical, structural, civil, etc.) to avoid conflicts in system designs
- Assist in performing stress analysis, flow analysis, and equipment sizing
- Prepare technical drawings, material take-offs (MTOs), and bill of materials (BOMs)
- Develop shop drawings; check to ensure quality accuracy and completeness
- Model equipment, piping, and components
- Participate in on-site visits to investigate customer needs and project requirements
- Attend client review meetings, ensuring alignment with project requirements and objectives
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- Proficiency in CAD software, particularly AutoCAD Plant 3D (2D and 3D), Solidworks, or Autodesk Inventor is preferred
- Willingness to learn new software tools and technologies such as PIPE-FLO, CAESAR II, and PV-Elite
- An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Technology, Drafting & Design or related field is preferred
- 2 or more years of experience in mechanical engineering or an equivalent field
- Experience with equipment layouts and system integrations
- Ability to work independently, interfacing with clients and project leads to execute project tasks effectively. Attention to detail
- Ability to troubleshoot design challenges and propose effective solutions
- Field Experience – Ability to perform site visits, collect field data, and verify existing conditions
- Salary Range: $70,000 – $90,000/year depending on education, experience, and any certifications directly related to the position
