JDI was contracted for the renovation design of Ohio Northern University’s second-floor Collaborative Learning Center for Student Success in the Heterick Memorial Library. Our technical team provided comprehensive architectural, interior design, mechanical, and electrical engineering services. We assisted ONU with bid solicitation, contractor recommendation, and construction administration to ensure timely project completion. Our work included developing detailed renderings, floor plans, furniture layouts, and specifications to convey the design intent effectively. This space was transformed into a dynamic hub where students find critical support services like the Writing Center, Testing Center, Career Services, and Global Initiatives—all in one convenient location. This new space opened to all students in January 2025.
ONU envisioned the space as a centralized hub for student support, featuring a high-quality learning environment that prepares students for success in their careers. The previous traditional library setting was reimagined into an engaging learning environment to support the modern learning style of today’s students. This was achieved by incorporating sound-controlled spaces for confidential and distraction-free activities such as advising, tutoring, international, accessibility, and writing services.
The ultimate goal was to create an inviting space where students feel comfortable seeking support and collaborating with peers. The construction was completed in October of 2024.
