The JDI Group provides complete facility design for the cannabis industry.
Your space, your place – our team of architects and engineers will design a facility to showcase your cannabis production and provisioning centers. We cover retail spaces, back-of-house growing, fertigation, extraction, and processing rooms.
Deciding between an indoor grow facility and a greenhouse? We can walk you through the pros and cons. Interested in high-yield butane extraction? You’ll need a blast-resistant, high-hazard room with special ventilation and electrical devices. Developing edible products? Our engineering team has the knowledge to support your production and packaging in a USDA-quality, clean-room facility. Worried about odor control, microbial hazards/pests, product drying, and storage? Need to meet state regulations for a secure facility?
Let's talk. We can design the facility you need to get you up and running.

Confidential Indoor Agriculture Facility - Grand Rapids, MI
The JDI Group designed the transformation of a boarded-up automotive manufacturing facility into an indoor grow facility. The project converted 188,000 SF of existing building into a closed environment agriculture powerhouse. A centralized fertigation system provides watering and nutrients to a controlled growing environment that is monitored and adjusted with a series of sensors and intricate controls and automation systems. The facility, in addition to several employee amenities, also includes areas for trimming, processing, drying, and storage of the product.
JDI’s structural engineers added a 2nd floor inside the existing 49’ high-bay area to add a much-needed floor area for the drying operations and additional product office
space.
The building also houses the corporate offices and retail center in the barrel vault ceiling area that was preserved and restored to give this project a unique look and old industrial building feel with a modern twist on the interior finishes and furnishings.
The provisioning center is centrally located as part of the full-service growing and processing center. The sophisticated retail experience guides patrons through a high-touch layout. Patrons enjoy a soft-seating waiting area with secure display counters.
This portion of the facility also included workstations for 20 employees, a vault, receiving area, and storage.
Confidential Indoor Agriculture Facility - Adrian, MI
The JDI Group led the site design for this greenfield development. In a business poised for expansion, the site needed to accommodate potential future facilities, without disturbing the infrastructure. Our team led the site layout, stormwater management, detention, and circulation patterns for both car and truck traffic. This comprehensive controlled environment agricultural facility includes a 20,000 SF head house currently serving five greenhouses, with an additional nine planned for approximately 180,000 SF of canopy. A centralized fertigation system provides watering and nutrients to a controlled growing environment that is monitored and adjusted with a series of sensors and intricate controls and automation systems. The facility, in addition to several employee amenities, also includes areas for trimming, processing, drying, and storage of the product.
Product that isn’t shipped directly to retailers is sent to an on-site extraction process area, then to a large-scale production kitchen to be used for various edible products, then to packaging/shipping.
A large-scale waste grinding and storage facility was constructed to manage the plant waste from the growing operation.
An on-site product testing lab was also constructed to allow for quick review and analysis to ensure product quality. The 7,500 SF quality control testing lab includes 15 testing stations, secure shipping and receiving area, a product vault, offices, a conference room, and lockers.
The JDI Group worked closely with a group of contractors to determine the required construction details and materials to best suit this work.
The JDI electrical team designed the electrical distribution system for normal power and generator backup throughout the Nexus greenhouses and kitchen build-out.
The design included an updated one-line diagram and panel schedules.
12.47 kV distribution line for power to eight 750 kVA to 1 MVA electrical services.
Agricultural Center - Monroe, MI
Beginning with a site master plan for a multi-building business park campus, JDI assisted the client with planning a large-scale closed environment agriculture facility, a small closed environment agriculture facility, an extraction facility, a retail building, and ancillary utility buildings, along with site detention, parking, and circulation.
This client is also planning a similar operation on a different site in Adrian, MI.
