EMU Athletic Center

the jdi group has provided services on multiple athletic projects on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. Two of our efforts included the design of the Tennis Courts and the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center.

Implemented to address Title IX compliance issues at the athletic campus of EMU, the multi-purpose building attaches to the existing Indoor Athletic Practice facility and houses a team room, offices, locker rooms, showers and restroom facilities. An outdoor pavilion provides space for spectators and/or students to enjoy refreshments during practices and tennis and soccer matches.

During the schematic design phase, jdi created multiple design option renderings for EMU to show how the new addition would connect to the existing building and how it would affect the overall look of the site. (The same was done for the Oestrike Baseball Stadium, when jdi was asked to provide EMU with options for dressing up the Stadium façade.)

The tennis courts were designed to NCAA standards and include scenic entranceways and landscaping to provide a pleasant connection between the courts and the rest of the athletic campus. In addition to their design, jdi also relocated the discus/hammer throw, shotput, and javelin areas. A new 177 space parking lot expansion connects to the existing lot via a tri-level concrete stairway.

the jdi group provided full architectural, civil/survey, and engineering design services for this project.
