Drew VanNess, PE wins 40 Under 40 Award

Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine named Drew VanNess, PE, of the jdi group, Inc., to the 2019 40 Under 40 list. This award is given to 40 nonresidential building industry professionals age 40 and younger who stand out in a variety of personal and professional aspects. Drew’s profile can be found at www.csemag.com/40under40.

Candidates were nominated by a professional colleague or mentor and judged by industry experts based on nine areas, including their commitment to superiority in their academic, professional, personal and community involvement. In the May edition and online, Consulting-Specifying Engineer honored each of these young professionals, highlighting qualities that lead him/her to sustained success, recent professional projects and personal achievements. Winners will be presented with their award at a ceremony in Chicago in October.

“This year’s 40 Under 40 winners are accomplished and diverse professionals and world-beaters,” said Amara Rozgus, Editor-in-Chief of Consulting-Specifying Engineer.

“Now in its 12th year, the program continues to honor the best in the industry. You’ll meet young professionals who have climbed quickly through the ranks of their companies — or started firms of their own.”

Drew VanNess has been with jdi since 2005 when he joined as a co-op student. He was hired into a full-time position as a mechanical engineer upon his graduation from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2007. Drew earned his professional engineering license in 2012 and is registered as a P.E. in the states of Ohio and California.

Drew has proven himself to be a valuable member of jdi.  He quickly became department manager of the process mechanical department. He is a leading member of the food sector marketing team. Most recently, Drew was promoted to Director of Operations of the process engineering group and was a member of the jdi strategic planning committee in 2018.

“His quick upward movement within the company is a testament to his strong technical base in engineering and his exceptional leadership skills. He is well respected within jdi as well as among our clientele,” said Timothy Fry, AIA, Architect and Principal of the jdi group.
